This is all you need to know
None of the rhetoric or action announced to date is likely to impress Putin, Amanda Paul, an analyst at the European Policy Center in Brussels, said in an interview. “President Putin doesn’t really care what the rest of the world thinks about his foreign policy,” Paul said by phone. “Ukraine is a neighbor country that Russia views as indivisible from itself. Russia is prepared to go to any length to stop Ukraine’s deeper integration with Europe.” To contact the reporter on this story: Brad Cook in St. Petersburg at bcook7@bloomberg.net
Described on tv over here today as a third world country with a first world military. Scarery thought.

West Ukraine to become more western, EU and Nato track etc. Putin doesn't give a fuck but he's not daft, he's learned from Georgia that he should get in early before war kicks off, then use soft power to get his way. And he doesn't want/can't afford a full blown war. US/EU fucked this up badly, pissed off Putin and Russian pols with their double-dealing over Yanukovich agreement and backtrack. Kiev also fucked up, moved far too fast, gave him an excuse. US response has been weak as fuck.Putin's bird - does not give a fuck

Whether he has Crimea back or not, Putin is a first rate cunt. He is not a spy he's a full on, rubber hose, secret policemen, with blood on his hands. The bile that is thrown at western leaders of all political stripes is comical given the easy ride this evil cunt gets. Does anybody know what the Russian is for lebensraum?

Stolen from RAF (Phil Thornton)ok let's play modern day imperialism - the old soviet system was 'defeated' by a superior intellectual philosophy called 'capitalism' or ahem, 'democracy.' Let's forget that the 'west' simply out spent the Russians in the arms race and accept that capitalism 'won.'So, then, all the gangsters and oil and gas grabbers came crawling out from under their rocks, staged an armed insurrection and used Yeltsin to hand over trillions of dollars worth of natural resource rights - bye bye Boris, you've served your purpose. These gangsters or 'oligarchs' are now the equivalent of the 19th century British colonialists, early 20th century US bankers and oil tycoons, and the arabs of the 70s and 80s. They have so much money, they pay off or kill everyone who stands in their way of buying London football clubs, sponsoring the Champions League and washing billions around the global banking system each and every day. They use Putin, an ex KBG man to do their dirty work, to pimp on their behalf , just as the queen and Obama pimp on behalf of their own mega rich pals. After a period when civil war erupted in former soviet controlled states and militant islamic groups began to threaten the asian frontiers, stolen Russian money was invested all across the globe to such an extent that the money men need to keep the Putinists onside at all costs. Once a laughing stock who couldn't even afford to keep their naval fleet afloat, the Russian military has regrouped and now feel confident enough to occupy a former Soviet state. The Ukranian 'revolution' is a smokescreen, a handy way to test the water. As the Small Faces put it 'whatchagonnadoaboutit?' Come on NATO, come on EU, come on UN, come on Uncle Sam, this isn't picking off peasants from 1,000 feet and cluster bombing village schools, this is a REAL army. Obama and Hague can spit all the shit they want about human rights and international law because they allow Israel and their other client states to flout these same laws when it suits their agendas and they can howl about the will of the people as much as they like, in Egypt, in Syria, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Ukraine, what it all boils down to is $$$$$$Putin's pals have zillions invested in Ukranian gas and see this as a vital lever to use against the gas guzzling 'west.' Vlad the Impaler has already felt cocky enough to jail Pussy Riot, Greenpeace activists, assist in the bumping off of rogue oligarchs and spies, kow tow to the nationalist and fascist fanatics of the orthodox church and he gets away with it just as those pesky Commir Chinese get away with it, because money talks and bullshit walks. Putin's position is safe. Obama's isn't. Come head lad! Watch some shithouse deal be manufactured on Monday.

One mans invasion is anothers intervention to protect the right to self determination. Texas declared itself independent of Mexico because the majority were American. The US intervened to save it. And knocked fuck out of the mexican supporters... who were indigenous to the region. Western Ukraine, majority of nazi collaborators v Eastern Ukraine, majority of indigenous Russians handed over by a pissed Khrushchev in 1954.

I was under the impression that the Texicans knocked fuck out Santa Anna themselves, eventually, after retreating and extending his supply lines. Independent state for ten or fifteen years before joining the union with a right to sub-devide Texas into five seperate states.

That was my take on it (the Texas thing). The only part of Ukraine with Russian majority is the south which is the Crimean peninsula. Also has a sizeable population of Tatars, who are vehemently anti russian given their treatment by them over the years. At the moment there's a massive disinformation program being peddled by Putain and Yanukovych (who seems like a particularly nasty piece of work) to scare russians, ukranians into rising up to 'protect themselves' thus provoking a reaction from the Ukrainian government to give Putain an excuse for full invasion. At the moment according to russian news agencies there's gangs of extreme right wing ultra nationalists running roun the ukraine causing anarchy. The only ones I've seen are the unmarked russian ones takingover all the military installation inthe Crimea.
