We stayed in Malá Strana, that’s the other side of the river from the Old Town. It’s quieter but scenic. I’d recommend Petrin Hill. Walk up past the American Embassy, then the German Embassy - we stayed opposite this, past a nunnery and up through a wooded path. There’s an Eifel like Tower up there. Climb the steps up there or there is a lift, lovely views of the city. There’s a little bar at the bottom and gardens.
Malá Strana is also where the castle is, St Vitus Cathedral dominating the skyline. It’s enormous, so much to see. If you want to go allow yourself a few hours. There are 3 or 4 options for tickets, I think we went for the middle one. Even if you don’t go the view from up there at night looking down on Charles Bridge is stunning.
Main shopping street is Wenceslas Square which has the huge National Museum at one end. Stag parties etc at night, ok in the day. The Jewish Quarter is worth seeing and a change of scenery. From there cross back over the river, plenty of river cruises go from that area incidentally, and up to Letna Park. Climb up the steps. At the top there’s an enormous metronome that replaced the old Stalin statue the they ripped down. There you can see for miles over Prague. As it’s wide open at the top there are skateboarders fannying about. It’s a good chilled out vibe up there. There’s a beer garden too and if you walk for ten mins straight on you come to Sparta’s ground.
