As far as I'm aware, colleague is a standard British English word. Most of the people I work with are based in the US and Canada. They don't normally use colleague, but "co-worker", or even worse, "coworker" i.e. with no hyphen, instead. That pisses me off. Bloody dollar dogs.
Even worse, I have to write reports using American spellings, and comply with their insistence on using the Oxford comma* when listing three or more items. The bastards have even commandeered the name of a British educational establishment as an excuse for using a grammatical device that is not commonly used in the UK.
*e.g. Red, white and blue. (An Oxford comma has not been used.)
