Losing an afternoon drying a down jacket that I've just washed and proofed.
Pull down apart in each baffle.
Tumble dry for 15 minutes.
Repeat until you lose the will to live....😵‍💫

Jon Nah, not really. Puts repellency on the face fabric and makes the down resistant, to some extent, to absorbing water.
Down is definitely for (very) cold, dry conditions. Not particularly suitable for the UK, these days, to be honest but I've had the jacket for years.

CharlieG I’m amazed they get away with sticking a Waterproof label on loads of products that they do.
My last few purchases have been synthetic insulation. I don’t see a major difference in them and down these days.

I've got a padded blue North Face down in Anglesey.

It's as flat as a pancake. Washed it and threw it in the tumble dryer with some tennis balls to pound it.

Did not work.

Any tips to plump it up a bit please?

Flaneur The tennis ball thing helps, when drying but to do it properly you have to do as above.
Tumble dry for 15-20 mins with or without tennis balls.
Pull the down apart, manually.
Repeat until its dry and plumped up.
You may lose the will to live...

Jon Synthetic insulation was developed for the military as an alternative to down. It goes into the jacket in sheets which doesn't fall into soggy blobs, when it gets wet, like down does and is still able to trap air and insulate. The jackets don't look as 'cool ' as baffled down jackets so, therefore, aren't as desirable for the fashionistas.

Jon Do people still do that? I haven’t ordered foreign currency for over 30 years. Cash machine at the destination airport or port always does it for me.
