Yano, I used to use the P word. I didnt hate people who were Pakistani, just used it as a defamtory expression. Im not proud of my ignorance but Im confident enough to stand up and admit it and to admit that I was wrong.
I educated myself and relaised that the use of that word is normalising the hateful use of it and sewing the seed for more hate and unecessary negativity.
Years later through cricket I have got to know many people of South Indian heritage and feel like my life is enlightened by building perosnal relationships with people from different backgrounds and heritage. It really is brilliant all the different creeds, colours, backgrounds, cultures, sites and sounds we have in our County, City, work places, schools, cricket clubs etc...
YCCC should use this situation as a platform to educate and build an inclusive Cricket Club and be a leading light to the rest of the world.
Through education we can defeat ignorance.
