Absolutely badly fucking put. But I got stuck in traffic a few years ago down Edgware Road; summer, all the people happy, singing and dancing for a couple of miles, absolutely no English language, all Arabic but great atmosphere.
I'm no racist at all - grew up with best friends Mohammed and Winston - sorry for any possible stereo typicality but sure you can guess. Late 70's RAR, ENL regular, also been part of 4 white faces in a crowd at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan concert in Bradford, regular at Phoenix Chapeltown - wanted to marry a black girl from France (I'm white)
But despite that, at work, I've also had the race card thrown a me. It was dismissed, but doesn't make me feel good at trying to 'do the right thing'.
Think we need to know the truth - YCCC need to be quickly transparent and draws line, however painful

Seems to be a lot of disbelief and outrage coming from people in the higher echelons of society. Don't they think this has been going on for years? People who live in 'nice' houses, in 'nice' areas and send their kids to 'nice' schools, might think none of this really happens, but the rest of us are well aware of the sort of language that is bandied around with regard to the different ethnic communities. Growing up in Bradford it was 'Paki shop', jokes about Asians, face to face insults at school and in the street. It was just normal. And as I said earlier in the thread, it's not really a shock that a Yorkshire institution has been found to be using this kind of language, is it?

Reggie_Perrin Of course. What I'm saying is the outrage that it generates seems to suggest that everything has been fine up to now and people are shocked. Clearly, it needs stamping out, rightly so, but some of those in positions of power and influence need to take responsibility as well as lots of other organisations, too. Heads need to roll, that is for sure, but the can of worms this opens will have ramifications for a long time, hopefully.

90Piesanhour Sadly I am not sure it is getting the widespread support that it needs across most/all areas of society. There are many tweets/Facebook posts on the grounds of 'I've got my own problems pal, made redundant during lockdown, fucking fuel bills going sky high, Christmas coming up. And it can't have been too bad for you - you came back to Yorkshire'. Seen a few on those lines. One even said 'well I hope grooming in Rochdale gets better policed as well now'.

Todays headlines become tomorrows fish and chip wrapper paper. Always been the case. Until it resurfaces. As it inevitably will as another well known organisation is shown to be institutionally discriminatory.

I certainly haven't got an answer and fear our society will become even more polarised as a result which I find really sad.

Reggie_Perrin But when the workplace is a sports setting or arena, it's just 'banter'. 'We didn't mean anything by it/Haven't they got a sense of humour?' etc. The original bloke who was accused said he was a good friend. I'm sure if I called a good friend the 'P' word or 'N' word, or whatever, we wouldn't be friends for much longer! And for the record, yes I have got black and Asian friends.
