Strange the silence coming from the Yorkshire lot. Particularly Root. He's England captain in an Ashes series that starts in less than 3 weeks. He needs to address it soon. Else the Aussie media are gonna be all over it !!

I don't care whether he is seen as a spokesman for anything, I wasn't aware that he was meant to be.

I also think young people can be racist and stop being racist as they become wiser. Regardless of this, racists can be the victims of racism.

I think it all speaks to the toxic culture prevalent in the club (and other clubs) which seems to have continued in its own bubble quite separate from progress on tolerance etc in mainstream society. I can say a bit as a half Indian growing up in Wakey in the 80s and trying to play club cricket (at a risible standard I accept) in the Huddesfield leagues and knowing some of the lads who played at a higher (in one case much higher) level. In short casual, jokey racism abounded which you sort of get conditioned into not taking offence at because "we don't mean owt by it...." and it is not surprising that it went all the way up to the top and stuck there in its own complacent bubble festering away year on year. Vaughan is riding for a big fall because I am quite prepared to believe that he is bound to have said what they said he said .and is trying to lie his way out of it to preserve his multiple income streams.......as a sort of jokey comment he would not remotely remember it because stuff like that was so commonplace but he should acknowledge that it is the sort of thing he might have said. It also speaks to a lack of empathy and a lack of tolerant intelligent leadership. Then again I have met Martyn Moxon and the people he grew up with and I am not remotely surprised.

Foxy_Dread oh FFS, so what are you suggesting? Nothing exists in isolation and the reality is this, Rafiq is now filed alongside the likes of Hales in the narrative. Not my opinion but that's the reality.

Have the powers that be been scared enough to change? I'd say yes, the loss of sponsorship etc for Yorkshire did that.

I think the test matches will be reinstated as that will likely be under threat of legal action as other stories at other counties with test grounds emerge.

Do we think that prejudice, discrimination, and antagonism is becoming prevalent in our society? And I use those phrases rather than purely racism as they encompass a wider issue in society that seems not to tolerate a persons sexual orientation, sex, age etc.

heyho no because in general it is much better than it has ever been but we are in the middle of a culture war and race is a big part of that (BLM v ALM stuff) and these issues are recruited and exploited by politicians and the media on both sides to exaggerate their effect on both sides of the debate to garner popularity .......its like you have to pick your side.....they can all fuck off if you ask me and we should make up our own minds
