I'm with you re:county championship comes first, and given the dearth of success in recent years, you'd think plenty others would agree. However, they got a right kicking on twitter last night. Most ire seemed to be aimed at Gale and, in true Yorkie fashion, at the money spent on bringing in Finch and Maxwell.

Dizzy writing in the Guardian about Bairstow:When he returned to Headingley after the 2013-14 Ashes tour, Jonny said he had received plenty of well-intentioned advice regarding his technique and after some conversations we came to the conclusion this had inadvertently created more confusion in his mind. So we made a pact: the Yorkshire coaches – myself included – agreed we would not speak to him about his method and instead judge him solely on his returns. This would be our only feedback. No longer would he have support staff stopping him every second ball in the nets, telling him to change his grip, stance, backlift or alignment. Instead, the only advice would be when he sought it and based solely on his gameplan for any given day. Sure, we still discuss conditions and what his approach for an innings will be, but in the 18 months that have followed his technique has not been brought up.http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/jul/20/jason-gillespie-column-england-jonny-bairstow-talent-ashes-recallWhy cant all coaches have such a simplistic approach to sport - makes it so mush easier.

Works for me.........

Great psychology that. Seems tpo be working a treat too. Lining up for an England return. Maybe Ballance and Lyth have been pissed about b y he England coaches and should be left along for a bit too.

Only watched the Yorkshire innings, as rain was imminent, at Scarborough on Sunday. Hard to tell how much the conditions affected batting, but Yorkshire didn't look too clever. Was hoping maxwell might have put in a big performance, and although he threatened, ultimately disappointing. If you have never been to watch Yorkshire play at Scarborough, make sure you do at some point. Class day, close to the action and great atmosphere. The post game pubs in Scarborough would best avoided, and the hangover on monday wasn't that welcome, but a cracking day out.

Not that bad after all - 1st innings lead of 6.

Bit worrying though - making just 162 with only two regular first XI batsmen missing?Bowlers digging them out of it again; bowlers who, as discussed this aft at our place, are all 30ish or older

Yeah, 3 if you count Root, but has he played at all this season? I've written him off for Yorks in the championship.Just think top order look a bit fragile without Lyth and Bairstow

What are tonights lottery numbers???Looking like we were stuffed at 79-5 , but Maxwell n Rashid put together a 248 partnership. 420-9 at the close
