Given Milliband will probably fall on his sword and resign who should take over from him. More Blairite clones like Douglas Alexander, Tristram Hunt or Chuka whats his name, a woman!!! like Yvette Cooper or Harriet Harmen.Does any of those names give any hope?

It'll be a lurch to the right. Whoever it is. Then the Tory press will spend five years telling us that they're a left wing wrecker.Anyone think we've got the government we deserve?

Bang on re the leadership contest. And yes we do.

The Blairites will be wetting their knickers.

Kinnock's lad. If they even think of that Ummuna fella I'm done with them. He's insincere and as slippery as they come. I like Burnham but he's not got the temperament, too emotional and a little bit whiney. I always liked Alan Johnson. Will Owen Jones ever step into the political arena?
Travis_Bickle
Johnson bottled it for the comfort of Andrew Neil's sofa. No stand outs. Burnham always did well in focus groups and the like. Should be reason enough not to choose him. Saddest thing is nobody stands out.I reckon Gloria Del Piero could mobilise the Dad vote.....

This no one stands out . Does labour have any policies or agenda anymore. They are a sorry state at the moment

Chuka Ummuna should be consigned to the Cunts thread. Andy Burnham is a good team player but no leader so............................ no cunt left, with a personality and originality. Labour is fucked. Will Miliband, the elder, slope back in at the next, available, by-election?
Misura
My £5 is on Chuka Umunna @ 9/4. Unless something cataclismic happens in the next 5 years, it would appear that a left leaning labour party can't get voted in. Chuka Umunna would sit happily astride a new SDP, promoting 'responsible capitalism', an active state promoting an industrial policy, boosting skills and education and improving infrastructure. He's a fan of Mandelson and Cable. He desacribes himslef as a 'european social democrat. He's already been introduced to all the right people, by the right people. Plus he wears a tailored suit well.Luciana Berger is on the way up, as is de piero.

That bloke who looked after labour in Scotland seemed to be real - Jim MurphyWon't be him but he did seem a genuine and true Labour man

bumped into yvette cooper a couple of times pushing a trolley around cas asda ( bet you'd never see osbourne doing his weekly shop in asda) she is very approachable will chat and even commented on my selection of sweets and strangly quite tasty.had a meeting with her hubby and bumped into him a couple of times he on the other hand comes across as arrogantas for the next leader labour needs someone who can win votes some who appeals to the aspirational working/middle classforget about a move to the left or the right what is needed is social justice that allows for aspirationa new broom i think
Cuts
As I remember, everyone in Cas always seemed quite happy to chat, usually about everyone else in Cas!Worst thing they could do is rush to appoint a new leader. Certainly got time to try for a good one,

Spot on. Umunna isn't the right man but he'll win a rushed competition. We need to think about what we really are before we start worrying about who heads it all up. It's the script not the actor that will matter.I genuinely think the next five years are going to hurt like hell. We've tried fucking around in the centre, seems to me it helps no one. Time for something a bit more radical. A return to principle. Good politics should involve a healthy dose of persuasion. Because a good politician can convince and inspire.Seems we're getting Gove at justice. That'll direct action for us 'fat cats' then. ....

politics is about powerand without power you ain't got anythingelections are always won in the middle groundlabour needs to highlight the unfairness of the tory cuts and the rising gap between the top and the bottom of society whilst offering hope to everyone who wants to get on in lifebut it also needs to grasp the nettle of the rising tide of nationilism coming from ukip on the right and the snp on the left

Is this why Gore's taken a break I wonder?
Ken_Kapstick
Ed Milliband looks like a reject from a Star Trek convention.Hes awkward and looks like he's married the first bird he fucked. No matter what his policies were or his understanding of the need to help people who needed it he was fucked from the start. His brother who was not as loved by the unions and a left wing cunt like myself would have walked it.These are the times we live in.

I met Andy Burnham in Beijing at the 2008 Olympics. I was fixing some dreadful woman reporters laptop, whilst she was interviewing Burnham. He went out of his way to shake my hand and ask how I was doing. He seemed a sound fella during the interview and I have always liked him since then. The reporter was a pain. Before the interview she was on her phone to her boss, saying she had seen Bradley Wiggins pissed out of his head and what a great story it would make. He had just won an Olympic gold medal, off course he was pissed. Had all on not calling her a few choice words.
Smutty_Lips
Burnham is probably tainted by the hospital affair in Staffordshire. If it was upto me the Labour Party would be pragmatic about this and accept it should get itself elected on a PR mandate, introduce PR and then call new elections.England is naturally centre right, under FPTP we can get a government well over to the right on a minority vote, this needs addressing above all else. We will never get a truly left wing government under any electoral system. I also think the Scottish Labour Party should go it alone, keep an affiliation but have their own whip in parliament not taking the Labour Party whip, they should then vote on matters in line with the wishes of their constituents. I cannot see a single Labour Party appealing to the midlands and south of England and in Scotland, the two places are poles apart.
