Reduce the perception of democratic choices down to 2 stark outcomes. Option 1 - Righteous, courageous, patriotic and fundamentally good. Option 2 – Weak, nasty and inherently evil. Then make sure you denounce anyone who might go for option 2 as cowardly, stupid and unpatriotic. Goebbels himself would applaud it.
