YoungParisian_inExile It depends on how your son takes to it. Try some different classes at first, most have the first lesson for free. Karate and TKD are similar, a mix of kicks and punches and patterns to learn, and are about keeping people away. Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Aikido are more ‘close up and personal’. Hands on and good if your son enjoys the rough and tumble element. No patterns to learn, either. Kung Fu, which pre-dates the lot is another matter and there’s loads of styles out there. I had a little dabble in Wing Chun, years ago, which was Bruce Lee’s first style and is a very effective form. Whatever you choose it will provide confidence, fitness, flexibility a positive mental attitude and, above all, useful self-defence skills in these turbulent times. I love it.
