Cheers. Might join.
I’m starting to think I might be getting my fitness back. At the start of last year I was doing as I’d regularly done for ages, 16-18km runs, 3 times a week, at about 5 mins 15 secs a kilometre. Not at all bad for my age. Then, in order of setback between March last year and April this year
(1) started taking statins, which fucked up my liver but which went unnoticed for months. Any exercise became a chore and was slow. I put it down to age and the stress of a new job. But eventually came off the statins, started to feel better, and running became more pleasurable again.
( 2) immediately then fell off my bike and did my collarbone. A couple of months of months of recovery and started running a bit again.
(3) tore my Achilles, out of nothing. Had physio for for about 3 months, started gentle jogging
(4) got a really bad bout of Covid that took ages to recover from. Lung capacity went to shit.
Since Sept I’ve been building up from 4km jogs and now I’m doing 10km 2 or 3 times a week. I need a couple of breaks, sitting panting on a park bench so my overall stamina isn’t back but it’s getting there. Because of the breaks I can maintain 5.20 or so a km. I think soon I can get through with just 1 break if I try. Then none, then increase the distance again.
Apologies for the long, self-centred post but I’m quite proud of the fact I’ve not given it all up for a dead loss.
