Working today.
Yesterday great day with my middle kid. Went to the Yale Harvard football (American) in New Haven, eldest has no interest in going so we picked her up outside her dorm after, nice to have her home for the week.
Parked up, walked straight into some big marquee crammed with tables with signs Class of 88, Class of 92 etc... Friendly crowd, had a feed then made our way to the stadium. Game had kicked off by the time we got in with thousands still outside eating and drinking. Good seats, halfway line, decent crowd, probably around 38,000 if I had to guess. Good game, good turn out from Harvard. Yale not really up for getting stuck into them. No Chanting You’ll never reach the station. What are you going to do? It’s different. Halftime protest pitch invasion. Students want both universities to sell off their interests in fossil fuel. Hard to argue with. Great natter with a couple who went there in the 70s, he played football. Talked about agreeing with the kids but how they had played into Republican hands, look how the elites behave that sort of stuff. Made me really think, proper catch 22. You go high they just go lower. Was great with my nipper asked her why she’s not applying there. When she told him where she hoped to attend he was all, great choice wonderful school, sound like you know what you want. Did her good to hear that from someone not callled Dad. Protestors held on for an hour. My eldest has a mate who was in there, international student. Takes some balls when you could potentially lose your visa. If it sounds like the crowd were against them they weren’t not at all. Lot of people figured the game would get abandoned as the bowl doesn’t have floodlights ( high school behind us has floodlights) and time was running out. Many repaired to New Haven’s restaurants. Talk of, ‘ I fancy oysters.’ Not exactly Wetherspoons this crowd. Great second half. Harvard had one lad run like the wind got three (I think) touch downs. Yale have a quality quarterback, good arm and runs too. Tied it up with eight seconds to go. Overtime and it’s getting dark. And it got loud. Harvard scored on the first play Yale took it to double overtime. Four and a half hours later Yale prevailed to win the Ivy League - shared with Dartmouth. Pitch invasion. Yes we did. Making plans to go to the return in Boston next season depending on where she goes to college and when she gets back for the thanks giving break.
Some quality music played Run DMC, Marvin and Tammi, and some shite. To see thousands of the supposed greatest minds in America sing along to Baby fucking shark makes you worry for humanity. Anyway, good day out. One or two dandies in the crowd too. Some hard core preppy vibes among the older crowd. Cord a plenty, deck shoes, knitwear. The younger ones not so much.
