Off to Shropshire after work. Might have a few tonight in the green and watch the footie but i've cooked a curry for me tea either way.

Saturday - going to Picklescott to walk up Cothercott Hill and then some lunch in the Glass and Bottle in Picklescott.

Then back to the Green for a few ales.

I'll do some reading as well.

Shattered - done some verge weeding and sweeping/jet-washing/tidying today. Having the rear patio repointed and it's due to be finished on Tuesday (thought it would be finished by now 😞).

14" Veggie pizza being ordered at 5.00pm and picking up a friend's Son from his Prom at 10.00pm.

Saturday - taking the dogs to kennels after a long walk with them. Big pile of ironing to get through and then into Liverpool at 3.00pm, for lunch at the new Albert Schloss (I bet the veggie choice is scheisse), then off to see our lad's futsal team-mate, the comedian Josh Pugh.

Sunday - probably the other half of the ironing pile 😆 and then into Hale at 5.00pm to meet a friend and her Son. Then onto Manchester to see Pet Shop Boys at that new arena. Cheating City bastards...

Monday - To M&S to get a new suit for friend's wedding in Dunbar in a couple of weeks.

Pottering is good. In a Jack Hargreaves kind of way. Very underrated, very therapeutic.

Cooley My dad was an absolute master potterer. If it was a sport he would have easily represented his country. When not pottering around he could be found tinkering with the car.

Cooley I'd say 'pottering' is more hands off & 'tinkering' is more hands on. I'd also suggest the former is best suited to organic matter and the latter to machines.

Cooley You're not a million miles off. Quick summary. My dad was brought up in a Liverpool orphanage so with that in his blood he ensured nothing went to waste and anything that could be repaired with electrician's tape, including my slippers once, was. He was always mending, fixing and..pottering. He had this tester thing that appeared whenever anything was on the blink, some electric thing, I've got it somewhere.

Tinkering's a mechanical thing. Sunday morning and half the street's dads had their heads under the bonnet. My dad rushing past me in a boiler suit with a gobful of siphoned oil in his mouth to spit in the sink is quite a memory. That brown Morris Marina took some right looking after I can tell you.

Yes, to the radio. He had maybe six or seven. Loved, loved his football. He was the bloke at the match with it pinned to his ear.

Misura Some good points there. Tinkering being more specific, while pottering is more general.

I'd say pottering is really just mooching about kicking a few tyres and noting jobs for the future without achieving anything at all positive. Tinkering implies actively trying to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place and probably making it worse without achieving anything at all positive. Different methods, same madness, same result.

Harvest My dad was the same, he'd be in overalls all weekend. He was a mechanic by trade , a bloody good one too, somebody's car would always half in our garage, family, friends, all sorts.Never charged them.Never had a decent car himself though. In the garden as well he'd look after the veg patch and green house.
Saturday night though, he'd be suited and booted, taking my mum out.
Proper old school.
