I'm thinking of getting a few 70s/80s blockbuster movies on dvd for my lad for Christmas. I've mentioned Jaws to him a few times and he wants to see that and I thought maybe Close Encounters would be a good choice. Any other suggestions? He's 11, 12 in March so nothing too sweary or saucy. Just things you reckon is worth watching from back then. He saw Ferris Bueller and liked that plus a couple of those Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood driving capers. He asked if he can watch American Werewolf but he's far too young for that.
Reading the last paragraph Convoy was a film I liked, as a 13 year old.I always liked crime , even as a kid, my dad got me into it. A really good film that you would enjoy with him is Robbery about the Great Train Robbery, with Stanley Baker. I just can't remember if there is sex in it. I don't think there is.It's authenticity is that is filmed in about 1968 so not that long after the robbery. One great scene is them discussing the robbery at a match on the terraces, which I think was at Brisbane Road.

Pappilon's a good shout. Great Escape might go on the list.

He's seen Young Frankenstein, that's an ace film
The warriors, one of my all time favourites, the fight scenes being slightly better than the karate kid.
Shout At The Devil. Web says it's a 15 but I saw it at the pictures when I was younger than that.
Would "Alien" be too gory for his mind yet? If so then "Aliens". More action and less face eating on the sequel.
I think so, the head appearing in the wrecked boat in Jaws will be bad enough.
