I remember watching and falling in love with this arena doc in 2004 and got my hands on a DVD that I nearly wore out. A journey into white southern soul in the shitholes and bayous of the deep south. Clocked it on the iplayer last night.

It also has a belting soundtrack album.

This being the stand out track.

BBC 4 is killing it at the moment for me - the history stuff on there is bloody ace. Ponds, Pubs and power - a history of the village is also ace.

a scientific and almost philosophical perspective.

Succesive governements and royality complicit in a cover up of epic proportions - I had no idea. It is obvious why now. It was utterly astonoishing the divisiveness of it and just how revered Franco still is - Who activly wants a dictator?

I need to know more about the Spanish civil war now.

Read a few books about it, lived there too and can vouch for the ‘amnesia’ around who did or didn’t support Franco. Fascinating and frightening stuff. And, yes, the Barcelona/Real Madrid rivalry is all caught up in this, too.
