Season 4 was decent. I don’t know why the knives were out for it. The shootout at the train station, Mike Millican in racist Oz and the execution scene in the final episode were all brilliant. It was as good as season three, which had David Thewlis as a superb positive but performances by Ewan MacGregor that didn’t particularly work.
But season 5 is a whole other level

Watched all four last night.
Excellent viewing with beautiful scenery for the Wales scenes as an added bonus.
I recall the case in the news at the time but didn’t really take much heed as it seemed pretty much black and white at the time.
How wrong you can be, this was fascinating stuff.
All you say about the importance of lawyers providing the right back up is spot on but it did raise the old chestnut of extortionate legal costs.
Unbelievable that when they won only 12m of the 58m was left to divvy out to the 500 claimants.
Equally the lad that represented himself ended up with legal costs of over 300k to foot after disputing the 26k claim from the post office.
The disparity seems bonkers.
How the fuck are these legal costs broken down out of interest?

Raposa that's the civil lot for you....
They're masters at 'fee-building'. There are seminars on how to maximise fee income etc.
I'm sure costs are used as weapons to discourage litigation in many instances.
For all of that, there's a lot of work done pro-bono.
I'm not sure if they still have hourly rate limits for privately-funded work. We don't in crime but the overwhelming majority of out cases are on legal aid.

Reggie_Perrin I disagree with Space because I loved it, right up to the end. Walton Goggins' performance as Boyd Crowder is one of a lot of brilliant things about it. The changing cast of scumbag villains over the seasons keeps it fresh and the spirit of Elmore Leonard guides it nicely. And those villains to me at least kind of predicted or previewed the Trump presidency. The first season is actually probably the weakest as the producers tried doing a number of self-contained episodes that weren't as compelling as the Raylan/Boyd main narrative.
Another interesting thing is the way it portrays regional working-class Americans. "We dug coal together"

Reggie_Perrin Watched this years ago and loved it. Olyphant has appeared most recently in Justified the Primeval, which is more of the same but without Boyd. Still worth a watch though.

oneallanclarke It wasn't without it's good points - Goggins being one of them. I did have a small amount of fun whenever a new generic cracker-red-neck-criminal appeared guessing whether Goggins or Oliphaunt would be the one killing them eventually.
