Bod Strangely the reality probably isn't far from the truth. I read somewhere that there was a thousand bullets shot in a WW1 battle for each man killed. It was volume that was fatal rather than accuracy. Factor in that most troops were more than half cut at the beginning of battles and more than a little scared shitless and to be honest it's not as easy as it looks to hit something moving with a rifle.
Personally I'd be in the bottom of a shell hole with my head down shouting "Bang" occassionally.
