They rate Gelhardt but don't know what to do with him because his attributes don't really fit the modern attacking set ups.
I said before the season started that unless you are committed to getting him in the team you might as well move him on. Only they knew whether he was above Rodrigo in the pecking order, if not then I'd have sold.
With young flair forwards it is difficult for them to impose themselves on a game in the final ten minutes. Especially when subs are often coming on to improve a struggling team. You are setting them up to look ordinary. They are dependent on service, they cannot feel their way into a game, or adapt to what may be a frantic pace.
I know it's a different level but I used to hate going on as a sub with the clock running down for all of the above reasons. That changed as I got more experienced.
I just think the forward thing is being handled really badly and they must be saying one thing to these lads and doing another. I can imagine Gelhardt, Perkins and Joseph are all pretty fucked off at the moment and I wouldn't blame them.
Also contrast the patience and understanding shown to Rodrigo, Firpo, Kristensen to the immediate impact expected of young lads playing in the toughest positions.
