I think last season's win rate flattered us.

Win against Watford. Unconvincing wins against awful Norwich, 10 man Wolves and 9 man Brentford.

Two of our four wins this season were at the start of the season, before teams had fathomed us out. After that we pinched a win at A field (well done) and a crazy win against Bournemouth.

Looking at this it's hard to see where the five or six wins we probably need will come from. Especially when you consider how many points we have dropped from winning positions.

Today was better defensively but we are in deep shit.

You have to wonder how we are going to find another six wins.

EEPW your last point is the key. RB Salzburg are so much richer than all the other clubs in Austria, their relative quality and depth of quality, means any success attributed to a manager, needs to be considered in this context. At any level of football, the more pressure you put on inferior players, usually means they give you the ball back quicker. Press them at the back, you get the ball back higher up the pitch, nearer their goal. Bake in far better quality then you can exploit this more often than not. Leeds are the opposite to Salzburg in that comparatively their quality is inferior to most of their opponents (not necessarily a fault of Marsch’s, more to being outside the Premier League for so long and having to play catch up) so by pressing high, the opponents can play around or bypass your pressure then you see the types of goals we concede.

The fact that Marsch is saying that the players are now understanding his system 11 months into his tenure suggests it’s either too complicated, they’re not bought into it or he’s been exceptionally unlucky in inheriting the thickest set of players known to man.

Odd_Job brilliant post. What i can't understand is for example Rasmus. He was clearly a Marsch signing brought in because he was a perfect fit for Marschball. Yet its clear to all that he just isn't up to the job and has been ditched in favour of an aging and past it Ayling (i love ayling and maybe 5 years ago he would have been premier league standard but unfortunately he is past his best). Also Wober looks class but we were crying out for a specialist LB (which i thought he was?) but we persist with the pirate who is a CB. absolutely baffling...

Odd_Job Jesse says players get his system when things go well, when things don't go well it's the players fault for not playing to his system properly. If he believes this he is never going to see his system as flawed.

EEPW I saw an interview with Robin Koch who said the biggest culture shock for him moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League was the increased pace and physicality. Given the German Bundesliga is a big step up from the Austrian Bundesliga, it might explain why both Aaronson and Kristensen have struggled to adapt? Might be that after a period of transition, they’re ok. Wober has made a positive start but I do wonder if he might struggle as and when he comes up against pace. He was the spare man yesterday and the two full backs had to cope with Brentford’s breaking wide players and Koch did the heavy lifting man marking Toney. Wober’s certainly brought some authority and calmness to the back 4 but he’s not yet weighed down with the baggage of the concession of cheap goals. Class is permanent, form is temporary as they say.

We were still exposed a few times in the full back areas yesterday and better decisions from them could of cost us. Nobody tracked their left back and had acre's of space in the first half. The back 4 constantly shuffle across to the ball leaving the full back area exposed to a simple cross field ball.
I honestly believe we would be better at the back and getting our full backs less exposed, playing 5 at the back. We have enough centre backs.
If we don't beat forest and Everton in the next few games, bin him.

white_dragon I agree 3 centre backs would give us more solidity, but then we sacrifice a midfielder. Yesterday, Harrison was the only midfielder, as he was v Cardiff, with any forward creativity. Aaronson is currently a passenger and needs a rest to rebuild his confidence, and neither Adams or Roka offer much going forward. So we might gain more clean sheets but at the expense of even fewer chances created. Yesterday, we didn’t create what you would call a clear cut chance imho

City - Loss

If he can turn the draws into wins and the losses into draws in the next 7 league games then he's done his job.

He's not an inspiring manager that lifts a city like Revie. Wilko and Bielsa. He just needs to keep us in the league until we can get that inspirational leader again.

And if we go down, so be it. At least it will fuck off some of the joker fans that go now expecting MOTD wankfest boring tikka takka stuff xg craft beer beard football. Fuck off you yellow beanie wearing ironic tattoo melons.

Odd_Job My thoughts are Firpo would be on the left of a 3 and probably Ayling or whoever on the right. They could push on and bolster the loss of a midfielder. Ayling and Firpo are quite progressive with the ball.

Then 7/15 points instead of 3/15. We now have 19 games to get 22 points, to give us 40, which would secure safety. We’re averaging less than a point a game. Everton look likely to fire Lampard which based on Villa and Wolves experiences means another team will appoint a manager who will oversee an upturn in results. We seem to be the only club to fire a manager and replace them, and be satisfied we’re no worse off rather than better…

I only see Southampton and Bournemouth in a worse state based on managerial competency and current form, once Lampard is gone.

Unless Everton continue in current their vein I think we are going down. I cannot see us winning enough games with Marsch's set up.

He tightened things up in front of the back four and down the flanks yesterday. I suspect it was a Brentford specific ploy.

To counter that step forward he seemed to want Gnonto more tucked in whereas he had played quite wide at Villa, and at times in the Cardiff games. He isn't going to give up on the RBull stuff.

Foxy_Dread Yes, its difficult to see where the points will come from. It would be terrible if we went down, assuming a lot of these new signings have release clauses? We have a half-decent squad now. A new coach could do wonders with it I think.

I'm bored of discussing Marsch, I wish he'd just fuck off or start winning some games. Either option would suit me. This drip drip Chinese water torture of a point every few games is twisting my melon man.
