Under-the-ground

David Olusoga. Black & British. A forgotten history.

Took me ages to finish. Him of the telly. Really good history book. Certainly makes you think in different terms. He is right I think as well. Keeps it very measured & respectful. Not written in anger . Really recommended.

Under-the-ground I really like Olusoga's histories - will have to cop for this one.

Under-the-ground

Just finished the brotherhood. Stephen Knight.

An expose on the Masons & lodges & all that. It was written in the late 70s early 80s & apparently the author was rumoured to have been done in by them. All conspiracy bollocks, but interesting. Not sure the masons have any influence nowadays though? Pretty sure they did then though

I picked this up of the table in Tesco. I am really enjoying it - bit of unreliable narrator, very dark humour and Welshesque in its tone and style. Recommend.

The swimmers. Julie otsuka. Started off really well. Sort of like a love letter to the discipline of swimming. Which was right up my strasse.

But then tried to link this to the character of the story & trauma, but it wasn’t joined up very well. So sort of flawed . 2lengths out of 6

Deborah levy - the man who saw everything.

Just fished this. Brilliant novel. About a blokes life but all jumbled up. He goes to the gdr. Wasn’t perfect but glad I stuck with it as was hard to follow. It all came together at the end.

Really enjoyable. Recommend

Bed: Resurrection Man by Eoin McNamee. UVF/UDA psychos in 70's Belfast. Based on the Shankill Butchers. 7.5 carving knives out of 10.

Bog: The Meteorites, Encounters with Outer Space and Deep Time by Helen Gordon. Love books like this; science, history and art in one book. 8.5 cosmic rocks out of 10

Kevin_Stapleton I’ve read Ressurection Man. Uncomfortable read. Fun fact: I was an extra in the film version of the book.

Anchor Yes.

MolOverBeethoven If you can get to see it, I'm in it very briefly, with the skinhead haircut, at the back of the bar, with a brown, suede jacket on, right hand side...Spotters badge if you can catch it at around 24 minutes in.

90Piesanhour Cheers mush.
