Harvest Loose_Lips He could have cut a third of it. Some of the sentences I was almost applauding though, beautiful writing in parts.
fuzzy "A moveable feast" by Hemingway about his time in Paris as a young man. Really interesting. Just read a funny chapter about a road trip to Lyon with F Scott Fitzgerald who was a total pisspot but a lightweight compared to Hemingway.
CBIT Harvest Is that the one were part of it is about nuclear scientists ? I'm sure @patlaughter recommended it, found it very hard going , ive got Americana on pile to read but keep putting it off.
Harvest CBIT Part of it has nuclear scientists, yeh, so must be. It felt like watching Leeds, parts of it were a slog but sometimes it just came alive and was an absolute joy. MOT.
fulmine Harvest Yes, the first part, set around Bobby Thomson’s “shot heard around the world” is one of my favourite bits of writing. But the rest of it is pretty darn abstract. Some great dialogue in there though. I’d recommend Frank Worthington’s One Hump Or Two next.
Harvest Kevin_Stapleton I don't think I've ever read any but I know I should. I've got a pile of other stuff to get through first.
Bod Fierce Kingdom, Gin Phillips A thriller about a zoo being taken over by 2 gunmen and the people trapped inside
Under-the-ground The cyclists on here do you ever pick books up from them community phone boxes with books in? I go to a trip to different ones & put a couple in & take a couple away. Just finished a book from one called all the colours of the town. An Northern Ireland book about Glasgow & Belfast & murders. Pretty good
Young_Marxist_at_Tescos Under-the-ground No I don't; think the only phone box like that I pass is near New Mill
Reggie_Perrin fuzzy constantly prior to Moon’s demise. If you went on a job with 4 of you and lived off beans for a month to save money why would you allow one of the others to live off fine wines, coke, hookers and big cars meaning you go home skint? Fuck that.
white_dragon I'm reading the Richard Osman , Thursday murder club. I got it Mrs D for Christmas, so reading it after her . She does pester though, where you up to, who do think done it and so on. Light reading ,enjoyable.
Reggie_Perrin white_dragon I started it, about maybe 50 pages in. It’s clearly written with a TV drama in mind. Good British yarn but the characters aren’t very subtle.
space Cooley "The Rise and Fall of the Thrid Reich" is worth reading if you like 3 inch thick paperbacks of stuffy history. Written by a septic journalist who was in Berlin until after the war started.
