Jon Fair do’s that. They are absolute magpies. The album above and the one before it contain snippets of nicked Dylan lyrics in almost every song. Mainly from Nashville Skyline and John Wesley Harding, its a bit cheesy tbh. Just the odd line or phrase but it makes you think, oh pack it in will you. A lot of charlatans fans don’t even spot the references. Same with little guitar riffs etc, a bit of Exile on Main Street era Stones here, bit of Led Zep there, bit of Floyd, bit of Byrds. So yeah, ‘by numbers’ is spot on. They do a great live show though.
The premise of Tim Book Two is that he asks musicians who he admires to suggest one album they love and Tim tries to track it down on vinyl in record shops on his travels in often far off places. Both the people who make the suggestions and Tim write a bit about what makes the album special . Got some great anecdotes in if you like that kind of thing. Kevin Rowland is in it.
