The Class Divide

Worked two jobs to put my kids through Catholic elementary and middle school ( it’s private so you pay for it here). Couldn’t afford high school for them, about $15k each, we’ve got three kids. We bought a house later than most people due to spending all our money on education. When we did buy we bought the town more than the house, good school district. Then they all got scholarships to catholic high schools.
So now we live in a town when our property taxes are more than our mortgage on account of how much the town spends on the schools. Funny how life works out.

Back to class. Sorry about that.

As mentioned elsewhere, I bombarded my 'friends' with Half Man Half Biscuit songs on Facebook yesterday. One of those who expressed a passing interest sent me a message saying he'd liked what he'd heard. He's a barrister. And is posh. Proper posh.
Anyway, in the message he said he'd listened to a few tunes and really liked them. As a posh bloke would, he particularly liked the play on 'He Who Would Valiant Be' in the title of 'He Who Would Valium Take'. I suggested the LPs I thought he should start with. I went with Voyage To The Bottom Of The Road or Cammell Laird Social Club. He told me a friend's brother had bought the latter. I answered with 'worse places to start'. It was only when he told me the bank this bloke had borrowed the money for the purchase from and that the family owned a ship-cleaning business that I realised he meant the fucking shipyard and not the LP.......

As me and Mrs MAC are Catholic have Catholic parents and Catholic grandparents we sent our kids to the local Catholic schools. I only realised things had changed in the school system when the lad came home and said there was a boy in his class called Mohammed.

Mega_Armageddon_Chickens Mrs G is the church goer in our house so all three had no trouble getting into St. John's C of E primary in Roundhay. One of the lad's best mates was called Mohammed. His family were from Abu Dhabi and as rich as fuck. At the year 11 prom, his brother gave him a lift in his Lamborghini. Some entrance. Year 11 being Roundhay School.
