Gare Du Nord. On holiday to Paris with Mum and my brother. We went by train. Had to kill time in a cafe in the station. There was a pinball machine. Mum said I could go and play on it. Some bloke comes over, starts trying to talk to me and say he'll pay for extra games and stuff.

Foxy_Dread Italy was never a Colony, Japan was never a colony. Hong Kong of course was but had been handed back 11 years before I arrived. I don't require fawning Foxy, I do take exception to being cheated for being English which was attempted on my first visit to France, fortunately, my then-girlfriend was fluent. Nor do I appreciate having a car driven into me to encourage me to hurry up getting the luggage out of the back of my cab. That was my second visit.

My favourite De Gaulle story:

There is a story about a conversation between General de Gaulle, who, as president of the French Republic, telephoned his American counterpart Lyndon B Johnson, to inform him that France had decided to withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty alliance.

Since its foundation nearly two decades earlier, Nato had had its headquarters in France. Now Nato would have to move.

Furthermore, de Gaulle added, it was his intention that all American service personnel should be removed from French soil.

Harvest his analysis of the criminal justice system was deliberately dishonest. It's all about money. Successive Conservative governments have talked up being tough on law and order and, at the same time, starved those in criminal justice of resources. The backlog in Crown Court cases was huge before the pandemic. It will continue to be so unless they make permanent the increased sitting we're seeing at the moment. The buildings are literally falling apart. Morale has never been lower across the court estate. And contracts for provision of services like prisoner transport and handling at court continue to be handed out to private companies that charge more and provide less, paying low wages and imposing appalling conditions on those they employ.
How anyone thinks the bloke can run a country is beyond me.
