Mitaman If we are going down that route Mitaman lets add in some of the British press as accomplices due to their miss reporting of the news and abusing their positions of responsibility to report things factually but would rather respond in a way to oppose a party they hate due to Brexit.
They are just as responsible as an incompetent blond mop head.
Mitaman
heyho Agreed.

It will take some work to top the 665000 Iraqis dead in Blair’s illegal war. But I guess Boris can give it a go between now and the next election.

However Bolton now apparently popular with the liberals is insisting that Trump doesn’t like a war. What sort of President is he?

I do not agree. The press are not responsible for the consequences of the people in power. If we had no press, we would have no voice at all. The press highlight and Bojo (much as that little cunt Cummings would have it otherwise) is responsible.,

doggybag I have doubts about the BBC as a truly independent voice at this current time, that is what I was mainly referring.

doggybag never said we dont need press but we need press to report the facts and not their biased political persuasions. Report the facts AND have their own opinions attached. NOT provide a report that is biased as well as cherry picking stories to to suit their attack on whatever political party (or person, or celebrity or football club etc etc) they dont like.

heyho The press has always had a political bias; why should we expect them to change now? Do we expect them to just report 42,000 covid deaths and not any judgement on whether this is good or bad? Or whether 42,000 is the right number?
What are the ‘facts’ about the pandemic?

I actually wish I knew. Not sure of them given the crap the government has come out with and the crap that the papers have reported.

‘Clever’ interviewers like Paxman and Marr basically give anyone a hard time. I dont really see any political bias in what they do. It’s the ones that are clearly reacting to stuff that is coming through their ear phones that make me cringe.

Apologies, disappeared. Needed to clean the car, took me bloody hours. Then I had to tie up a second homer mate of mine’s car battery for when he gets here (If he gets here).
This is a good debate but I’ve plonked it in the wrong thread. Trawled through loads of existing ones to see if there was a good fit but I’m gonna open one on press, media and constitutional democracy. Their future.

In my opinion Foxy (and this is just my perception from someone who may see politics slightly right of centre but with a bit of the good things of socialism thrown in I hope) I have found The Guardian, the Independant and Yahoo to dominate their news with a bias tainted towards their dislike of Brexit. So they are using their position to undermine and get their own back.
Like I say just my perception. And believe me I do NOT go around reading the Mail or Express either as they are no better

heyho Quite often in their rush to get in kicks on Johnson-Tory-Brexit, the public good suffers collateral damage.
Right, pulled out most (hopefully) of the stuff referring to press and politics and how they relate or don’t relate, etcetra, etcetera.
Answers;
Mitaman. The BBC does have a problem at the moment. I agree. For me, they are too light on the government due to the repeated threats from the Tories to basically shut them down.
Heyho. This was a turn of phrase and was in no way intended as personal.
What Kevin S said rings true for me. As consumers of press and media, we do tend to get aggrieved if the organ appears to attack or denigrate our views. I read the Times on Sunday and the Guardian online most days. The front page news is usually straight with a bit of a slant of it’s really topical. It’s the editorials and opinions that are sometimes rabid. But I think I can filter this stuff. I don’t feel the press or media is manipulating me. I think politicians and spin doctors are manipulating the press. That’s dangerous.
