Jon Seen a few posts on twitter saying stuff like I fell in love with Leeds after watching Damned United, I get so mad. That’s shite, it’s fiction.
The stupid thing is the truth would have made it a much better read and film as well.
Take the scene that my dad was in that shows him walking on a beach in Spain? in his suit (with cigar) to present Clough with an offer. That NEVER happened. The truth - my old man met up with Clough and his associates on a rainy night in a canteen in a service station north of Nottingham. Surely that would have been a better depiction and opens up a few ideas.
OC knows the author (and knew my dad) and told him to get in touch with him. My old man would have never have divulged some stuff (he never did even to me) but he did like the odd story or two like when the wheel fell off the plane on the way back from a foreign match and the plane had to make an emergency landing.
Truth is often stranger than fiction.
