From what I seen on motd , he doesn't seem to have a role in the team , jogging around filling space, not picking anyone up.
I thought the 2nd yellow was harsh. Absolutely nothing going his way atm.

Reggie_Perrin And where would you play him? Is he markedly better than Kamara, Ampadu, Gruev or Gray in that role? Personally I have never been for players or managers retreading old steps, once they have gone, good luck. Lets all move on.

the problem with Kalvin is that he had a VERY specific and Vital role in MArcelos team. He was the pivot between a team that was very fluid in their shape between defence and Attack in a man to man system and Bielsa turned him into a robot at that very very specific role. No other team i can think of plays the same way Marcelos teams play. As such as just a normal defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder he is bang average and any other team would find it very difficult to fit him into their system. I am 100% certain that pep bought him to prevent him going to a rival and he was always going to rot on the bench.

Really feel for him and coming back to Leeds would be 100% the wrong move for him. No idea where his future lies apart from abroad.

EEPW Agree. he's a system player. But he has proven he's able to shine under Southgate's double pivot.

Pep probably bought him to backup Rodri. But Rodri went into God mode the season he signed. And Rodri's all roundedness has probably forced Pep to build his system around him, and the new system no longer has a place for KP's skillsets. Aside from the pirlo style long passes, he was also fluid and has enough awareness to drop back, becoming a passing option to move the ball out or cover across the back when the full backs are high up. He's not afraid to go into tackles either.

Maybe a position change could be helpful. Centreback/sweeper that could bring the ball out or swing a nice long pass?

This is almost where Bielsa played him. I’ll never forget York Away pre season. The 1st time I saw him and Vieria both playing that role in different halves. I was like wow! What the heck is this business.

Dropped from the England squad. Hasn't made any impact on West Ham. But I'd think if anyone who could return to the England squad by having just one good game, it'd be him. Southgate has said KP's roles are unique, and England are quite short on midfield.
