He was on the radio one night and a Villa fan rang in and it got onto who was the bigger club Leeds or Villa.
Wright was very pro Leeds and started reeling off our successes of the late 60 s early 70 s. We were obviously a top team, if not the top team when he was a kid and started watching football.

In the Lowfields one season when Arsenal won. Wright and rest of them went over to the wedge where their supporters were and the Leeds fans gave them abuse. Wright put his hand behind his back and gave it the big V! Funny as .....

I was at Highbury one night and they had beaten us. He was one of the last players to leave the field and echoing around our end was "Ian shite, shite, shite."
He turned to us and stood back and put his arms up feigning fear, I had to laugh.

I think Wright was talking post WW2 and not the league titles they won in the pre WW1, before Leeds United were formed.
I ll give you the European and league cups, though.

I honestly don t know what the criteria was Zipper. A Villa fan rang in and I don t know how Leeds even got mentioned, but I think Ian Wright started naming clubs in the Championship (where we were at the time) and started talking about "big clubs" that weren t in the top flight and I think that s how the comparison started.
He obviously started watching football when he was 7 or 8 and as that time we were very successful, but the Villa fan was talking about the titles they won in the 1800 s, I remember that.
