Go Sonos. You can probably pick up a pair for £300, but you can then add more to them to make a sound system for your entire property. Much better than stand alone speakers, and the sound quality is the best IMO.

I have to say that my big Amazon Echo is actually ok. Also got a little Echo Dot in a Majority speaker Dock that does the job nicely. All work as Bluetooth speakers.

I always found Bluetooth to be a but shit for wireless play.

I found getting a Google Chromecast Audio and putting that into my Bowers and Wilkins Z2 brought it right up to speed technically.

Thats not a bad option. Go eBay on a really good speaker with Bluetooth and drop a Chromecast on it.

That said Flaneur knows his onions. Probably better ways to do it.

I hate Bose. They used the warranty to get out of replacing a faulty pair of earphones. The ear piece was fucked but they used a tiny piece of wear on a far away piece of the cable as an opportunity to quote the warranty at me.

They kindly offered me a £20 discount on a replacement pair. I declined

Knocking out for 120 quid on Amazon so well within budget.

OK, here we go.

I have this speaker, and often I am amazed at how good it sounds, seriously.

It’s bluetooth and also has a line-in. It’s serves as my portable garden speaker, and has had previous lives as my kitchen speaker and is famous for when I do my ‘guess the 80s intro’ game with dinner guests, where I plonk it in the middle of the table, queue up an 80’s synth pop playlist and skip through the tracks - people never get things like ‘Windpower’ or ‘I Ran’, but I digress.

They must use a mix of electronic trickery, and an internal tubing system to make it sound so big, plus it’s got rear facing drive units too, so if you need any more bass, you can place it closer to a wall and let the sound use that perimeter.

I used to dislike the brand, mainly because they were a competitor of mine, but… kg for kg, this speaker out performs all of my other speakers. Sure you can go into the music settings on your iPhone (if you have an iPhone and Apple Music, and set the EQ), but the sound it gives from the EQ being ‘off’ is perfect.

Works well with dance music, rock music, acoustic stuff, it’s really great.

Don’t get it in black, because scratches show up, and maybe get the protective cover.

I have it, Raposa has it, and it’s my recommendation to you IQN, it’s the Bose SoundLink Mini II

You had any experience with a Sonus one, my mate has one, he swears by it, great sound when I’ve heard it, the only problem is that you have to plug them in. Just wondering what the sounds like compared to that Bose of yours

If you want to get two speakers and pair them as a ‘stereo’ set, that’s a different recommendation from me.

With that Bose speaker, you press ‘on’, it say’s ’Connecting to (whatever you have named your phone), and the song comes on. Battery life is good too, and it gives you a vocal reading of how much battery life is available to you.

Only charge it with the Bose cable though, as others charge the speaker slowly.

I have the bose soundlink and its ace. Also got a B&O BeoPlay P2 old style that’s the bollocks and price has come down at least 60%, but I expect the new versions are even better

The Sonos One isn’t bluetooth is it ? It connects through wifi, and you have to plug it in. Good sound though

I completely forgot I had this Bose system, it’s about 10 years old. Bit odd this but it was my dad’s, his older brother who was in his mid 80s gave it to him as he wanted the newer model! Anyway, just set it up, the sound is lovely. Essentially it’s a CD and radio. Is there any way I can make it Bluetooth cheaply? I was having at some bits on Amazon but they all seem to be for docking stations. Not looking at spending much.

Thoughts please.

Harvest I have one of these Harvest and swear by it. I don’t know about making it Bluetooth but I do have the ipod docking station for it if you want it for nowt. I ended up buying the bose portable wireless docking station for the ipod. Let me know and I’ll dig it out

otis Nice offer, thanks for that - I have an Android phone though. Thinking about it I do have a very old iPod but that’s by the by. I just thought it might be easier to add a bluetooth receiver of some sort rather than using a separate bluetooth speaker.

But yeh, the sound’s really warm. I can’t believe I’ve had it so long without using it. I have an old Pure DAB radio in the kitchen, must be 20 years old. Going to replace it with the Bose.
