I was at that Sunderland game, Venison was outstanding for them that day and Burns really fucked him. It was fucking shameful. I never had any time for Burns after that.

My dad managed to wrangle some press box tickets for a couple of games in 82/83. He said that one of the Leeds directors was in ranting about Burns and it was obvious that they were trying to get rid. One of his so called crimes was a tirade of abuse aimed at the Leeds coach driver every time he travelled. Apparently the coach driver couldn't understand a word and thought Burns was his mate. He was gone not long after.

My dad was instrumental in bringing Clarke to Leeds. The board were doing their usual dithering after the comings and goings in the previous 5 or so years post Revie so he put in a good word for him during their board meetings. No wonder they sacked him not too long after Clarke 😆 😅

I remember going to the 0-0 at home vs Spurs and thinking it was the most boring match I’d been to at Elland Road. My friend from school who was with me said we were in danger of going down based on what he’d seen and I thought he was bonkers.

That Spurs away game in the cup was lively to say the least.

The Spurs game at home was freezing "Tottenham die at Elland Rd " was the chant from recollection, after what had happened there previously.
I also remember the W Ham game, I think we were 3-1 up in that and drew 3-3. There was a stand off in the South Stand upper tier between our lot and W Ham.
Peter Barnes, turned out to be a disastrous buy, his career nosedived.

Yep, the ICF lot got there early doors and managed to get in the South Stand upper.
Another mental day.
The mood lightened up somewhat by Silba from Bradford (RIP) getting amongst them to sell his LUFC lottery tickets.
Never one to miss an opportunity that lad.

The Barnes transfer seemed to ruin both him and us. Although he did spend a couple of years playing intermittently for manu.
Those videos are excellent and 81/82 would have been even better had there been the Internet. Imagine the online meltdowns.
It was the first season I started going regularly. I'd have been better off watching the ITV 7.

Mega_Armageddon_Chickens Clarke had been promised money for 3 players he felt were needed as key to his squad. The board coughed up nearly £1m for Barnes and got cold feet. So he never got the other two

I watched the clip on here last night and I looked up Barnes afterwards because I couldn't really remember what he did after he joined us for the second time. Apparently, Atkinson took him to Manchester United but he didn't last long after Ferguson arrived (not surprisingly). He had loads of clubs in total and my last memory of him was a last minute header at Huddersfield in a draw, when he came on as a substitute.

Fair point although Clarkes man management style didn’t appear to be the best.
He pissed a good few off and the likes of Sabella, Barnes and Flynn were all banished to the stiffs.
The Barnes signing was odd, we needed a front man and spent shit loads on a winger.( ring any bells?).
As much as I liked Clarke he took us down at the end of a season when there was definitely teams worse than us.
We know the rest.

I always thought Barnes did ok when he came back from Betis. He seemed a better player. It was the second division though so probably stood out more.

My over riding memory of Barnes was that he was a James Last fan as he used to tape the albums for my dad. That says it all about the man
