Despite a couple of hours being soaked through and frozen by bracing winds and sleet this afternoon, I'm a happy man. Guiseley notched up their 5th win in 6 league games, defeating top of the table full-timers South Shields. It's been a massive improvement since the installation of the new management team when they were hovering over the relegation zone, to now being 7th, 4 points off the playoff places. Their new "former World Cup star" signing made a late, uneventful appearance. However, he's 41 and played for New Zealand, his claim to fame being he scored a tap-in against Italy at the World Cup final in 2010, so not quite Lionel Messi.
On a less savoury front, after the game about 20 or 30 schoolkid hooligan wannabes started throwing objects at the South Shields supporters' coach. I don't know what prompted it - perhaps they've been watching too many videos on YouTube. However, they are going to be in for a rude awakening when some bigger boys decide to give them a good slapping.
