A short and sharp LP of 6 songs combining traditional and electronic instruments by multi instrumentalist - Riechmann. An artist of who was a contemporary and previous bandmate of both Wolfgang Flur (Kraftwerk) and Michael Rother (NEU!) before he struck out on his own.
His was a short-lived solo music career, by virtue of, a matter of weeks before the release of the LP in August 1978, he was the victim of a random knife attack in Dusseldorf city centre walking home from the pub, from which he died 2 days later.
All of the songs are minimalistic and none of them do a lot but do enough to keep it interesting and at moments take on a hypnotic quality. I imagine they would have been ideally suited to the soundtrack of either a Cold War tv series or a dystopic futuristic film.
On seeing the cover you immediately think of Gary Numan ‘imagery’ but then realise “Wunderbar” pre dates Numan. If I came across this LP in someone’s collection, the cover alone would make me want to take a closer inspection and further investigate.
