Reminds me of the Bill Hicks piece on the Iraq "war". I don't often comment on this but it's clear to me that Palestinians don't matter very much to western governments and if antisemitism was really something this Israeli government cared about they have probably turbocharged it globally for a generation.

It was being reported last week that the IDF had stopped policing the aid convoys and they were turning dangerous - some agencies even stopped the shipments. This is a disaster that was made, however the deaths occurred. The ensuing starvation is a tool.

Fixed your question... You need to remember that Hamas achieved power in Gaza via a coup. It's not an elected government. Hamas and their Iranian backers were definitely trying to provoke a reaction from Netenyahu, but I think their attack was far more successful than they had planned and gave 'yahu an excuse to let the IDF off the leash and go all apocalypse mad.

Djpekingman the USA sends Israel $3.8bn a year for military equipment normally, and have sent an additional $14.5bn since November. 80% of Israel's weapon imports come from America. So they're not overly bothered are they?

They won the election over Fatah in 2006. But have failed to hold another since. Their support amongst the population has definitely waned recently. There's no accurate figure for how many fighters they have. The Times of Israel put it at 30k.

doggybag their own leadership claim 40k. Given the enormous sums they receive from backers across the wider region (Iran alone provides an estimated $100m annually) those figures seem eminently plausible.
I appreciate that may not fit everyone's narrative.

Edited to add that the Wiki page for the Al-Qassam brigades gives a figure of 30-40k 'operatives'. The cited sources appear legitimate and don't seem to rely solely on IDF estimates

Also note that despite the US calling for a cease fire they've once again vetoed the cease fire resolution in the UN security council. Also note despite similar calls from the UK we abstained from the vote.
