Saw The Roses at Middlesex Poly in Feb 89 ... Still love the first album and their early stuff.
Likewise Oasis ... Definitely Maybe is a great album full of raw energy ... saw them a few times in Camden very ealy days. Even saw them at Loch Lomond

But 20/ 25 years later and churning out the same stuff ...Good on them, they obviously like making music but, its not for me. I'll just listen to those old albums and check out new bands.

If it floats yer boat and takes you back to simpler times then cool but do'nt expect people to rave about it and give it 5 star ratings and not take the piss a little .

Misura No hate from me. I'm just disappointed. Liam's Liam, I can just carry on ignoring his solo output, it's not for me, but I expected better from Squire. The Roses meant everything to me in 89. I played that album to death. I thought Squire was cooler than Christmas. They had a huge influence on me. I actually feel a bit silly for even hoping this would be good. Or interesting at least. I mean his two solo albums in the early 2000s were at least interesting. I fully understand why they wouldn't want to put any Roses or Oasis songs in the live set but it would have been pretty funny to pad the set out with Liam singing John's songs about Edward Hopper paintings 😀. Playing Jumping Jack Flash is as cliched as it gets and is the stale, lumpen, polar opposite of everything the Roses once stood for. Anything but that FFS.

I heard a song by Fontaines DC on the radio the other day. It sounded brilliant. There was something vital and intuitive about it. I guess you can't expect that from middle aged millionaires and I feel daft for hoping otherwise.

I guess I am on my own here. I like the album . It’s not the roses or oasis. Just good to hear Squire making music again. He is a great player . Liam is Liam . But he is a good rock n roll singer. You can hear that on I’m a wheel.
It’s better than the roses comeback that’s for sure.

The roses meant everything to me & I saw oasis in Preston well early, but that doesn’t mean shit.
Yes they werent ever going to be as good as Fontaines.
If people enjoy it FairPlay to them. It’s like the Stones last album . Isn’t as good as Fontaines but you can hear the enjoyment in it & made for the right reasons. It’s along way from fucking Coldplay.

Raposa not when the roses & oasis were in their prime. The album they have just released. A couple of 50yr / 60yr old can’t measure up to a good band in their prime. But it doesn’t prevent them doing an half decent album, like the stones just did.
Just my opinion like, but yes Fontaines really blew me away. One of the best bands I have seen in recent years. This was on the 2nd album. All 3 are very good I think. But as you say it’s all about opinion

Don't think Fuzzy or even myself are saying that Fontaines or Young Fathers of late are as good as The Roses, Oasis or the Stones but what they have is the attitude and energy of those bands in their early days. As 50 odd year old millionaires, Squires and Gallagher, might not have that same 'fuck you' attitude to succeed these days. Anyways you choose ... these 2 tracks or the dirge at the beginning of this post 😁

The track at top of this thread is a good tune in my humble and certainly better than some of the dross about these days ( not all mind).
Sorry for not jumping into the pile on which seems to follow when someone posts a tune on here… personal preferences innit?
Flaneur posted the tune asked a simple question and then the thread veered off onto some sort of All Our Yesterdays debate with trainers, cagoules and God knows whatever else brought into the equation.

Misura 😆 Liked past tense. I saw them at the Duchess the day after their first single came out. Then on the Sunday afternoon slot at Glastonbury that year and the Leeds Irish centre in August. I liked them a lot. I LOVED the roses.

Feel like I have to say for clarity's sake - I'm not in the slightest comparing the Fontaines with them when they were great bands. I'm just surprised that John Squire has released some music that sounds lazy, clichéd and ultimately boring. That's all im saying. I don't like the album. It's not sacrilege to say that. I'm not gonna say it's ace when it sounds shite to me. It's not controversial to not like it.
