Flaneur So looking forward to this on iPlayer. "Summer 2003: Bob Monkhouse entertains a room full of comedians with stand-up, chat and a comedy masterclass. The night became the stuff of legend among comedians but was not transmitted until much later." https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b086tw3q/bob-monkhouse-the-last-stand?at_mid=jYFp9kPckC&at_product=iplayer&at_brand=b086tw3q&at_ptr_type=media&at_format=image&at_objective=consumption&at_link_title=Bob_Monkhouse_The_Last_Stand He died later that year. I saw him once, at a trade show awards evening, at The Hippodrome (punctuated by two sets from Edwin Starr). Both were fantastic. Any Bob stories?
Bod He had a very strict upbringing, his mother was very religious and he said she never loved him. When he married at 21 she wore black and never spoke to him for 20 years, and wouldn't let him see his dying father. His father would beat him when he was young, one time he needed stitches.
Harvest Growing up I didn't pay much attention to him, lumped him in with Tarby, Brucie, etc, all the dinosaurs. But looking back he was miles ahead of the pack once you got past the smile and smarm. Liked a sex party it seemed.
otis Harvest they all were funny/corny when you look back now. Did you ever see that Jim bowen documentary when he went up against new comedians in 80s/90's and he told a joke and they pissed themselves This is classic [https://metro.co.uk/2024/01/08/bullseye-clip-leaves-people-shocked-hosts-bullying-comment-20084467/?ito=article.amp.share.top.whatsapp]
Anchor That clip of him on family fortunes where he tells the milf mum he wish he had 'played' with her is genius. That Limey or whatever his name is dissects it on The choob. I'll see if I can find it. Edit:
Reggie_Perrin Was never a fan tbh. Don't understand the love he got from modern comics. Gave good advice to some though I hear. Never made me laugh and was more than a tad creepy.
