I’ve never been, although I’m currently mulling over a lost long weekend over there.

Fly into Knock, hire a car and drive to the coast. Stay somewhere for a few days.

Anyone have any recommendations? I’m thinking small fishing village, the sound of crashing waves, good sea food, local pub & nice views.

A place where a man of advancing years can contemplate over a few pints of Guinness.

Honestly, google best things to do in Mayo/Galway. But as mentioned, you'll not stray far wrong from Westport/Achill/Belmullet. It's all about the coast.

Djpekingman went out with a girl from Westport about 15 years ago. lasted about 18 months then i met her parents, When they found out i was a twice divorced Englishman with 2 kids and 5 grandchildren they ran me out of town. Fab place some great pubs and amazing seafood.

A bit to the north is Achill Island or to the south Roundstone and the Kings arms. Proper two blokes and a dog on a piece of string boozer.

If you have time you can take Achill via Mulrany and Killary Harbour (only Fjord outside of Scandi) to Connemara traversing 'The 12 Bens' and the famine road (google them, spectacular) and onto Letterfrack and Roundstone and Clifden.

While in Achill do not miss Keem Beach (amazing) and the 'EIRE' marked in huge stones on the coastline there to discourage lost German pilots from bombing rural Ireland by mistake. If you've a taste for it, you can visit the ruined famine villages in Achill and the memorials. Sobering. Then the aforementioned famine road where 10000s died where they fell. Dare you to walk it alone at night.

Not West coast, more South coast, but currently looking at a long weekend this summer.
Deciding between Killarney for 3 days, or Cork one day/Kinsale 2 days.

I’m biased. So gotta be Westport and all that’s around it. Truth is all are ace but Killarney is Yank central and more expensive than Times Square. Won’t go too far wrong in Cork/Kinsale either though. Anywhere up and along the west coast from Cork at the bottom to Donegal at the top you'll be grand.

Just stay the fuck outa Limerick city.
