One of the great guitar songs. Urgent, propulsive and melodic. I always want to play again it straight away when I’ve listened to it. MBV were fantastic the one time I saw them live in 88, around the time this was released. It’s between them and Motörhead for the loudest band I’ve ever seen.

Never got got MBV. Still don't. I'm with the punk recidivists here in that Husker Du and Sugar are loads better. I'd add in Sonic Youth and Jim Foetus also in the better land. And the Hookworms.

I started listening to a bit of MBV recently. Critics spunking all over the shop when it came to Loveless. Thought I’d give it a go. Started off really well. Within three or four songs, that was it for me. Off it went. The bird’s warbling got on my wick. One of those bands who try to be a bit too fucking clever for their own good. A smack in the mouth wouldn’t do any harm. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t.
Small doses then. A niche market. A brave choice.

The video ticks every late 80s, indie box. Quick cutting from the band not taking themselves seriously to US TV show clips. Always loved that style.
I like it. I liked them back then. Didn't love them in the way I did Husker Du. It doesn't quite hit in the way Mould's stuff did. Not quite there. But a valiant effort. Play Copper Blue instead.

I didn't mind this. I've struggled with MBV but I'll try a few more on the strength of this.

Reminds me of a lad I lived with when I was at Poly. His musical tastes were pretty shite to me - all the Sub Pop / Dinasaur Jr / Tad stuff. Probably Husker Du too.

But there a three tracks he got me into - Longue Route by the Young Gods, Revolution by Spacemen 3, and this - for which I'll always be grateful. So cheers, Chris.

Loveless is a great album. An added bonus is that if I ever want to be in a room on my own in the house I just put it on and everyone scarpers.
