You might know Ken. He had a rake of hits throughout the 70s, particularly 'Everthing I own', but this shows a more serious and soulful side of the man.
It's a cover of the great Syl Johnson track, an epic in itself, but this version takes the soul to another level for me. Plaintive, desperate but still warm vocal set against a fantastic driving yet lilting backing track.
I got to see him at the London International Ska festival a few years and he was ace. The only disappointment was that he didn't play this track. He's getting on a bit now, I'm not sure if he's still playing live, but if he is and you get the chance its a couple of hours very well spent.
I love it. I could listen to it all day.
