This gem was released in the late 90’s, and still stands as one of his best pieces of work. Coulda shoulda been a Roses tune/b side for a 3rd album.

I lived in London at the time and used to see him walking about. He looked as cool as he ever had, it made be happy to see him & I hoped it was the start of his renaissance.

I love the general vibe and pace of the song, and the lyrics are an obvious dig at Squire.

The title of the song comes from the following quote:

People who talk about revolution and class struggle without referring explicitly to everyday life, without understanding what is subversive about love and what is positive in the refusal of constraints, such people have a corpse in their mouth.

Which also features in the story of the blues part 2 by the mighty wah!

I did my Bar exams in Manchester in '01-'02. It was probably one of the best years of my life. I've spoken on here before about my own 'wilderness years' in my 20s. The 90s were an amazing decade. There was so much I could have done, some would say should, but never did. Looking back, I wasn't very well and I wouldn't swap where I am now for the world so maybe there was a purpose to it. But going to university in '98 (libraries gave us power, I lived in it, typical mature student) and then qualifying and getting a pupillage was a golden time. I met the Mrs shortly after I started in chambers in '02 and life changed for the better in just about every way.
One of my best memories of that time in Manchester was a BBQ at a mate's house near the Elizabeth Gaskill campus. It wasn't of itself the most incredible day/night. But it was perfect. I was happy. Surrounded by people I liked and that liked me. We laughed. Got nicely pissed. Stuart, the lad whose house it was, knew his music. And loved Unfinished Monkey Business. With good reason.
This song was the one you'd always hear him singing in corridors or doing the washing up.
It's a shame that Ian Brown went a bit 'Le Tissier'. He made some great stuff with and after The Stone Roses. This is right up there.

Flaneur I remember reading that. Definitely started recording at his home studio, might have been finished somewhere else. Fair play to him, learning instruments etc. Showed he had more talent than people gave him credit for. That album has a great sound and feel to it.

I was right into that and also loved his Solarized and Music of the Spheres albums in particular. Shame he went a bit "tin foil hat" in the pandemic. He's a funny old stick and they were weird times I guess. I've got out of the habit if listening to his solo stuff. I used to really enjoy it.

First heard this tune when it featured in the Shane Meadows film A Room for Romeo Brass which was Paddy Considines screen debut.

Fabulous track and probably my favorite listed on this thread so far (apart from mine of course).

fuzzy I think that by the end of the roses Reni could play an excellent any instrument he chose to lay his hands on, Mani could play a decent rhythm guitar and Brown could play basic bass guitar and rhythm. After he quit, i think Brown started experimenting with 4/8 track recorders & drum machines and laying done basic songs. I think 2 or 3 of the songs were knocking about as SR's very loose demos. Aziz Ibrahim then fleshed things out as a very good guitarist and helped the arrangements. Inder Goldfinger also helped with drums & percussion. That's why his best stuff from that era has an 'eastern' feel.

Pleasantly surprised by this. The last track I heard from Brown was a live cut on 6 and fucking hell it was painful listening. I'd be surprised if he hit the right note at all in it. Somehow on record he manages to sound like he can actually sing. Autotune? While he may claim to have played all the instruments on this I remain sceptical - he's a bit of a full on Milli Vanilli in that respect. But this is a good track. Maybe I'll listen to him more. There again, maybe not.

IB’s first 2 albums are class, next two not as good imo but still have a couple of decent tunes on.

I think he lives in Kennel Lane Sandiway and has been spotted at Blakemere Village.

He got done for speeding once in Hartford, which is sort of the next village to me. I'm wondering if he lives Lymm, why he is over this way, it's a bit sleepy Cheshire?
