It's not all over for him, it just makes it harder.
In our day there were loads of kids labelled as thick buggers, who went on to do alright, and were far from thick.
One example I know, left school with next to nothing at 16, qualified as a social worker years later.
I don't know what the careers service is like now but don't let them or him write him/himself off.
What is his career dream? What is his passion, when the dust has settled, sit down and work out a pathway. With application and grit it is probably still possible.
Good luck.
And well done to all the OMJ spawn who have aced it.
