I saw the game and incident. My argument isn’t about the rights and wrongs of the decision (of which there are 2 sides). My argument is that a manager wants to see a player sent off. Surely that’s not in the spirit of the game? Can’t imagine Shankly coming out with that statement.

You could argue that the challenge wasn’t in the spirit of the game either.

The rules state that so long as the challenge wasn’t violent and the referee ‘plays on’ (and Diaz and Darwin were happy to do that, rightly so) then the ‘foul’ isn’t given. The ‘rules’ after that then become unclear. What if it had been stopped, what reaction? Haaland springs to mind! Would the ref have been vindicated if Liverpool scored? Personally, the ref should have gone back and booked him - second.
But again, my main point is that Slot states that he’d prefer a player to be sent off rather than play advantage. That’s cuntism and another nail in the coffin of my football and what it’s become. It’s why Gibbs-White was booked for waving an imaginary card. Near Lost.
