Man. That's me gone.
So sorry for your loss @fulmine - what a beautiful write up, so much power in nine lines.
I think we've had a time/topic on here when we have discussed 'our parents' music and how we find comfort in it. I'm in a nostalgia bubble at the moment. Well to be truthful, I have been for a while. I listen to a lot of music each day, tons of it, still searching. My belief is that your favourite song was once brand new to you, so keep on hunting...
My main radio station seems to be Absolute 70's. I'd have been 8 in 1973 and 14 in 1979 - and I'm struck with how much of my musical 'likes' come from that era (and what a decade the 70's was for music). And 'likes' as in the style of music, not just the artists.
I can burst out crying at the drop of a hat. I get goosebumps from certain songs. It's like a direct line back to a place in time, and whilst the photo is fuzzy, the feelings are very real.
I have a playlist called 'Rena's Playlist'. Rena (Catherine in Scotland) is my wife's late mother. We had a liking for the same radio songs and she asked me to load them onto her phone. If I hear 'Everything is Beautiful' by Ray Stevens, or 'Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue' by Crystal Gayle, I'm gone.
Sorry for your loss lad, hope the next few months are kind to you.
