I was in Lyon when Klaus Barbie was on trial in 1987.

Other than that I can't really help you.

I spent a few night in Geneva in 91 and jumped of a huge diving board in the lake. I also scored some decent resin.

Again. Can't help much other than that.

I looked at Geneva a few years ago and think DJ put me off re prices.

A bouchon that locals brought me to - La tete de lard. Just beside Place Louis Pradel.
My airbnb landlord sings here sometimes, Les Valseuses. A music bar.
The Confluence Museum.. I'd recommend a full day.

Coming back to this. My lad's just finished his first year of A levels, one of which is French. Thought it would be a good idea to immerse him in the culture and all that. I like the look of Lyon and have only heard good things. Geneva was a bit of an add on, we'll get the train there but maybe spend more time out of the city. First thing I did was check fixture. So it'll be a day in Lausanne and the match later, playing Basel day after we get there. Lausanne looks decent too.

Harvest Lausanne is very chocolate box as are many of the towns and villages along the lakes. Get the train up to Zermatt - you'd probably have to do an over nighter as its a fair trek, but if its clear the sights are amazing.

Take your wallet, and a spare.

The Tony Bourdain 'Parts Unknown' episode where he is in Lyon is so good. Its probably my favourite out of everything he's done. It's on Netflix. The food looks incredible.

That's all I've got sorry. I have been with some mates but we spent all our time drinking heavily in the old town part and I'm afraid I was very, very drunk and can't remember much apart from it was beautiful.

Jon No not seen that. Looks interesting. Just remembered that in Lyon we went to a restaurant and one mate tried to show off by ordering a local delicacy in French and he was served pigs trotters which were largely inedible. I played it safe with the poulet which was delicious.

I'm gonna watch the Bourdain Quebec episode . I remember thinking that the Myamar one was fascinating and the Tokyo one ace. The one in Scotland was a bit disappointing because he went to a chippy and got cheese on his chips. I was thinking get the haddock mate FFS.

Yeah he was ace. Kitchen Confidential is a great read.
