Foxy_Dread Track was at the opposite end of the street to Waterstones, just before you got to Parliament Street. It was at another place originally, or did it move from there - whichever, the move happened when I was there

Footy, yes and no. Not Sunday League - played Rowntrees Inter-D although didn't work there. We won it one year. Plus six a side Sunday nights in Acomb.

I can't remember the street name, the row of shops was an awful concrete construction. It was either Goodramgate or Gillygate. Thanks Wiki.

Foxy_Dread I think it was gone by the time I got there, late 92. Track & HMV were my go tos, couple of second hand places too.

Harvest it will have been. Record shop, as FD said, started in Gillygate, then moved to bigger premises in Goodramgate, bout 5 shops down from Newitts heading away from town. Last record I remembering buying in there was George Best by the Wedding Present, so that’ll have been 1987. Before your time in York Harvest, I think.

Young_Marxist_at_Tescos handful as being an excellent side. To be fair, they shouldn’t have been playing in the West Yorkshire League, they were a strong NE Counties Prem side, then fell victim to needing to have turnstiles and stands etc. to stay in that League. They moved to the Teeside League for a few seasons but found travel too much and ended up in WYL.

Irony was their pitches, maintained by Nestle, were the best.

Odd_Job I got to York in 1991 and don't think I went in Rhino until after leaving Uni in 1994.

Foxy_Dread I grew up there so 1970-1989, Red Rhino was there throughout my time, first in Gillygate then afterwards in Goodramgate.

Think their Goodramgate premises is now a restaurant. Feelgood Records was also on Goodramgate, opposite the Cross Keys, not far from the minster.

Where was Priestley's, the t-shirt place? They advertised in Sounds and NME but I'm sure they had a shop too.
Nice to able to contribute something to the thread as the song's not for me. Back story's good though. I think we could all do with Sundays like those again. Next to no traffic, walking around town when it was deserted. Convenience comes at a price.

Travis_Bickle round the corner from the original Red Rhino Records shop location in Gillygate, on Bootham. 2 mins walk away.

Later it morphed into a vintage clothing shop, and moved into the city centre.

I always liked York. I sometimes think I’d like to live there. Not often but sometimes.
