I picked this song for my pick a good while ago but have havered last few days but finally gave my head a wobble and stuck to the plan.
This is my banger from your youth that you love and had an impact on your musical tastes. Obviously the baggy/indie dance cross over stuff from the late 80's early 90's and the accompanying lifestyle choices that went with it.
This is one of those song you can go without for a few years then think 'I need to listen to that again' and enjoy it, all over again.
A few songs really hit me in this period - this being one. The other standout is WFL - the Vince Clarke remix from the year before.
If anything this had a bit more about it for me - the swirling keyboard intro on the 12" version and those perfect drums for the state of mind you were in then the angular guitar - the Wragg fellah was some guitar player - before Jane Gill's divine dream pop vocal - almost choral - kicks in. But wait - then we get that almost baritone male vocal from Rikki Turner - not varying in scale much - a perfect accompaniment to the female. Ace. Then it just builds and builds with walls of sound. A tremendous track that I gave some right hammer back in the day.
Mr Peel was responsible for my picking up on Paris Angles with foirst single Scope. I lived in a great flat - it was the attic of a huge town house I'd manged to rent for next to nothing as I used to go out the the landlord's daughter. It had beams and exposed frames everywhere. I spent hours just listening to the radio sat at me kitchen table eating beanfeast and reading Viz in this flat. Anyway - then this track was released; they really hit their bootstraps here and I started hearing it in a few pubs, clubs, gigs and after parties in my youth. I feel it was not the hit it deserved to be though. However I suspect most on here will have heard it.
The first album - Sundew - was a good but this is easily the stand out track - Oh yes not far behind. I don't think they lived up to what they could do.
They then recorded another album that got lost due to label buyouts and what not. it was eventually released in digital form on bandcamp in 2013 or something.
It is here if you are interested. It is free.
Anyway - I hope you like it.
