I never realised they were ex Expelaires.

Frequency was one of my favourites when it was released (79?). What did they first change their name too? I remember the Expelaires released the inferior Madness At The Mission under a different name.

Foxy_Dread Adams left and teamed up with Eldritch to form the Sisters. He and Hussey left the Sisters and formed the Mish. Wolfenden left the Expelaires and joined the Lorries

Not sure but you might be mixing up your Leeds Rock royalty. Madness at the Mission was recorded by Music For Pleasure. The spin offs and solo careers are like a list of Leeds Bands - Girls at Our Best and Danse Society were possibly two of the biggest.

I remember Peel saying MFP were the Expelaires after a name change (trademark issue), I wouldn’t have a clue.

I knew The Expelaires were from Leeds, singles released on Zoo. I never knew the Sisters connection.

I’m having to bite my lip a bit here, cos I know the grief I got for one of my particular choices, but this lot, The Mission, Field of the Nephilim and their ilk always came across like something from a sketch show. It sounded pretty dated in the 80s, but sounds positively prehistoric today. Each to their own, but thanks for posting.

I first met Martin at middle school. We hit it off from the first minute. I could be here for hours recounting the jokes we shared…‘Squire Warby’…‘back over to the tooth’. They mean nothing to anyone, but even now I’m grinning as I type those words.
We didn’t realise that we lived half a mile or so from each other when we met. We thought we’d be mates for ages. He lived literally over the road from Lawnswood. But he got sent to Abbey.
There was a massive split in our friendship group. Still not sure why it happened but it cost me over a year with the lass I thought was the love of my life.
Anyway, as I struggled with how to get cords that were long enough to properly crumple over my Adidas Munchen (High and Mighty came to the rescue selling 36 and 38 inch inside leg Levi’s), Martin was perfecting his eyeliner and crimping his mohawk.
The ‘goth’ look would never have been for me, but he carried it well.
It was easy to be cynical about the whole ‘goth’ thing but looking back he was ‘harder’ than I ever was in his androgenous outfit when compared to my Fila rain jacket.
I remember he and I listening to ‘Alice’. We may have been on completely different courses. Especially at that difficult age. But we both sat and smiled.
It was such a great song. Didn’t matter if you had jeans that weren’t quite long enough or hair that wasn’t quite spiked enough. A couple of pals liking a tune is a good thing.
This will never be essential for me, but the Sisters are. Because they made really good tunes and also sum up what not being sure about what you are or want should be when you’re young.

Goth was deffo not for me but recall from Pips that the older Punks evolved into Goth pioneers.
Siouxsie was their hero, and then along came Bauhaus, etc.

It’s not Alice is it? I only know their singles from indie discos, and some of the later stuff but listening to this, and - dear god - the cover of 1969 isn’t going to make me seek out anything else.

Alice is a tune though.
