I saw them in Tokyo on the 3rd Feb, the day before Mrs KOTS gave birth to our latest edition, three weeks early. Full AAA passes, friends of the band / tour DJ. Got given 12 passes to the after-show meet-up in their dressing room, as the final song played and was told to hand them out in the crowd to whoever I liked, but "no knobheads!" 😅 Now, the KOTS of old would have thought this a great opportunity to go hunting for sloshies and giving it the big "I am." But being a Dad really changes a man. I'd noticed during the night, that there was 3 or 4 families in attendance and during the show I thought, how cool is that? Dad, Mum and nipper checking out the Chems and by nippers I mean about 10 or 12 years old. Going for it and sharing a moment with Mum and Dad. So that was that then, I hunted out these families out of the 17K in attendance, knowing they'd paid $170 a ticket. Then in my best Japanese, I explained that I'm "with the band" (still a little ego boost to be had) and I'd noticed them enjoying the show and would they like to meet the band and go to the after-show party on the top floor of the exhibition centre and if they were unsure, I could take them up when it finishes. So there's me at the end, shepherding 4 families up into the private VIP area. Them not really understanding what was going on, but obviously ready to go with it. Then we hit the afters room, open bar, full dinner spread, open decks and the band. Two unlikely heroes, one especially shy and reserved, saying thank you to all these families and posing for photos. Boggie, the tour DJ asks me who I brought up in the end and I pointed towards these awestruck (but still playing it cool) families, telling him I'd seen these kids with their parents rocking out and knowing they'd spunked a wedge on 3 tickets it made sense to give it to them. Spot on mate, spot on! I then made my exit after and avoided going for dinner with the band. I just wanted to get back to the kids and good job too as our lass had started her labour when I got back at 10:30 pm.
