Seeing as YMAT threw down and bit of a trump card, Fuzzy angling for a site wide "JD x NO" tear-up, and me being one of the OMJ New Order disciples, I thought I should oblige.

Maybe not one of their best songs, probably not essential, but for me it is, definitely an overlooked track.
On pretty much all of my running playlists, definitely the tempo and race ones, for the last 2/3 kms.
Never fails to put a giant smile on my face, makes me want to dance while I'm running, and definitely appeals to my Peter Pan outlook on life.

If we were playing Top Trumps then I'd have thrown dowm Age of Consent.

Go on... chuck it on, crank up the volume and dance in the kitchen.

At Poly, way back when, there was some dance night - house with a side order of hip hop - to which an indie mate of mine came along. And proceeded to sit on the floor (because, student) and hold forth on how shit everything was. Then Fine Time came on and leapt up to dance until it finished and then reverted to floor level slagging, apparently not understanding how ridiculous this was. Of course he got the piss ripped out of him for a long time after.

This has nothing to do with this track but I suppose it might have informed my view that New Order were dance music for indie kids. Nowt wrong with that, I like quite a few of their songs, and well, some of my best friends are New Order fans. This is a bit meh though.

I've always thought of NO as electronic dance once they shed the post-punk post JD vibe. 5-8-6 ... was the other track i thought of posting, definitely club inspired. Another great track to run to.
Technique was undoubedly one of the gateway albums for indie kids into dance music, 2nd summer of love 1989 and all that . Great album, but for me Fine Time is the worst track on it.

"Some of my best friends are New Order fans" reads as "Some of my best friends are Tories" 😂

Lots of happy memories with that album. The only one I remember us having on vinyl. Think my brother bought it. That paper sleeve cover design.
I was never their biggest fan. I struggle with his voice at times. But this one stuck with me. Got played a lot.
The standout for me was Sub-Culture. Such a beautiful song. And one his voice is perfect for. That intro.

My love for New Order came from that once they'd given up following the JD template, they were a electronic music singles band without any compare. The run of releases from Everything's Gone Green through the 80s and right up to their hiatus is absolutely unmatched.
But I never had that much time for their albums as albums. To me, even Power Corruption and Lies has a couple or more filler tracks and I'm afraid I don't much rate this track within their overall output. (5 8 6 on the other hand...). The intro is, as Anchor writes, like lots of tracks mixed up and is the most appealing bit. Sorry to be negative about a tune from band that are special to me.

Love this track, it's a perfect album closer and begs you to start over on the LP again. It really could have sat on PC&L, Brotherhood or Technique and not sounded out of place, New Order DNA stuff. Surprised it's not on my "best of / dream gig" playlist. Will sort that now..

Foxy_Dread I've always liked how Bernard's lyrics can sound simultaneously banal and profound. Like he really can't be arsed but can't help it turning out deep.
