Last night having a scan through utube. The killers with Springsteen encoring with this came up .

I didn’t get the Boss until 6 years ago just prior to Covid . Too American. I didn’t need him. We’ve got weller, Morrissey, Bowie, the stones, the who & the Beatles etc etc. I got his biography & read it. The way he wrote about the Beatles, the stones he came across as a top bloke. So I listened.

Glad I did. He’s got it all . He’s the cool America, you know Levi’s, Johnny cash, hunter s Thompson. I was lucky enough to see him live a couple of years ago. He delivered everything music can give you . One of the best shows I have ever seen & something I won’t forget. This is for me the one. It’s massive & one of the top “rock” songs of all . These lines

Get out while your young
I want to know if love is real

The emotion & longing . The million dollar sound he wrote about.

Don’t you have to keep moving to live life. I think so. This songs makes me glad to be alive. Plus the best counting in the history of mankind is in it.

Under-the-ground not a dissimilar Bruce journey to me.
I would add in the denim jacket with the sleeves cut off, a couple of Paul Calf lads I knew who worshipped him, and the ambiguous Prefab Sprout song....and I never really got into him.
I have warmed to him though, as his knowledge and charachter have turned me around.
Plus he can write decent songs. 🙂

Really dislike Springsteen’s one-dimensional tedious ‘rawk’. However, his politics are spot on and this is an undeniable classic. In fact it’s the only song of his I like. File with ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting’ by the turgid Elton John, which is also a classic. Thank you.

As people probably know, I am a Bruce fan. Got a ticket for Anfield in June , think it's my 11th time. Born to run is always a highlight of the live shows. Of course it's a 10 from me.

If you made a list of all the bad cliches you could find in a rock song, this probably ticks every box, but having heard his other stuff and believing he’s a sound fella, you should also find the generousity to pardon him for the whole lot.

And that final expansive roar gets me every time.

I have the audiobook, read by Bruce. He started to get on my nerves after a while. I never finished it. I can’t recall what it was about him that bothered me.

Anyway, Born To Rum love it. Total excess. Product of his environment. Would sound ridiculous if he came from Great Yarmouth but he doesn’t he’s from the Jersey Shore. It works for me.

Like a lot of his stuff. Sort of sits somewhere between Dylan and Strummer. Great live when he just plays. He started getting all political in between songs at one point. Really killed the momentum of his shows. I believe this was exclusively at US shows. My mate saw him when he did his Broadway run. I had no interest. He belongs in a massive arena.
Like some of his later stuff too. Letter To You, Magic and of course the magnificent Nebraska album.

Ace pick. Aztec Camera’s Somewhere In My Heart has the same feel.

I don't reply to many of these but I am in agreement with most that 'Born to Run' is a 24 carat classic. A radio me and the old lady listen to had a countdown of the Boss's songs and I predicted this would be number one and it was. It's a story, a New Jersey kid with engine oil stains on his jacket keeping his second hand Harley running and his girl that he longs for only half sure why. 'wrap your legs round these velvet rims and strap your hands across my engine'. Phew. John Lennon would definitely have approved.

A gem of a song from a gem of an artist. Writes brilliantly. Performs incredibly. He gets what makes a great tune. And finds the right words to go with them. Loved that Roundhay Park gig. I knew some of his stuff from the old man, but that show was full on energy for hours.
100% essential.
